FAQS About Commercial HVAC in Atlanta

Working with Moncrief

What brands do we service?

Moncrief is a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer. But, we service all brands, makes, and models.

What does our Diagnostic Charge include?

The diagnostic charge gets our technician, in a fully stocked vehicle, to your business to troubleshoot a problem with the system. Once the problem is determined, our technician will let you know the issue(s) and costs of additional repairs. We do not waive the diagnostic fee with repairs because our process is thorough and we will get to the root cause of your issue.

Can you provide exact appointment times?

We operate on three-hour windows to respect our clients’ needs and schedules. With this schedule, we have flexibility to troubleshoot larger issues or allow for traffic and other unexpected events. We always call ahead to let you know when we are on the way. We can also contact you on your cell phone or text message so that you do not have to wait at home for our technician to arrive.

System Troubleshooting

Is it normal to add refrigerant to my system?

Yes and no. HVAC systems tend to leak over time due to the normal wear and tear on a system. Leaks can also occur for other reasons. But, you should not have to regularly add refrigerant to a system. If your system is low on refrigerant, a technician can check the system for leaks and their source. It may be repairable, or it may signal the need to replace a component of your system, which we can help you determine.

Why can’t a leaking coil be repaired?

In most instances, leaking evaporator coils are not repairable. This is because the metals are corroding and breaking down, and there are numerous microscopic pinholes packed into dense layers of aluminum fins and copper tubing. In some instances there is a specific leak source that can be repaired. Also, depending on how old a component is, the cost of a repair may exceed the replacement cost of a new component. A technician can determine whether or not a leak is repairable, and which will save you more money in the long run.

Should I leave the fan switch on “AUTO” or “ON”?

There is no true correct answer to this question. However, using the fan “ON” mode has been shown to increase levels of humidity during the summer. Additionally, air leaks in the duct system may cause additional infiltration while the fan is running.

HVAC Ownership

Does my lease agreement require me to have a maintenance agreement on my commercial property?

Most lease agreements do require tenants to have a maintenance agreement in place.

What type of filter should I use?

Standard fiberglass 1” filters are the best for airflow, efficiency, and system capacity. Using more restrictive pleated filters reduces air volume going through the system, making it harder for your system to heat or cool your building. If you want improved filtration, we recommend a high-capacity media air cleaner designed to work with your system.

Why and how often should I have regular preventive maintenance done?

The system that heats and cools your business requires regular, seasonal maintenance to perform optimally. Components need to be cleaned, inspected, and replaced over time to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the system.

What does my warranty cover?

Under the standard factory warranty, Carrier covers parts that fail during the warranty period. The warranty does not cover labor after the first year. Some components carry more warranty coverage than others, based on the specific model/serial number and installation date of your system. Please call us for detailed information. With our Maintenance Plan, you’ll have 10% off parts and labor on all your system repairs.

What is the life expectancy of my system?

Life cycle of an HVAC system depends on many variables: proper installation/sizing, routine maintenance, usage, location, and acts of God (lightning, rain, flood, fire). To ensure you get the most out of your system, we encourage customers to get a Maintenance Plan, which will ensure the system is properly cared for.
